Blog Journal #9

9. Given the authority to establish a holiday, what would you choose to commemorate? Why? What would the celebration look like?
If I were to establish a holiday it would be V-J Day. V-Day is a term used during WWII prior to victory being achieved in Europe and Asia. The term was later replaced by the use of V-E Day (Victory in Europe Day) and V-J Day (Victory over Japan Day) after victory was achieved by the Allies in Europe. I would make V-J Day on September 2nd because that is when the signing of the surrender document occurred. V-J Day is also know as Victory in the Pacific Day of V-P Day. Although the initial announcment was on August 15, they signed the surrender document on September 2nd making the final agreement. This holiday is very important because it was when America defeated Nazi Germany and Japan both. The celebrations would be similar to the Fourth if July.
